Austin, Texas is adding aerospace and defense to its’ growing list of technology companies. BAE Systems which describes themselves as a global defense, aerospace and security company is expanding its brand to American soil right here in Austin, Texas.
BAE Systems is a British company and is one of the world’s leading aerospace and defense technology companies. They work on a wide range of manufacturing such as military grade aircrafts, artillery systems, electronics and more.
The new campus development will be built in Parmer Austin Business Park, near the U.S Army’s Futures Command and the Austin Capital Factory. Operations have 1,400 employees to operate. The company is expecting to create 700 jobs over the next few years according to the Statesman. BAE Systems states work at the new site will entail “new programs and existing business, which primarily includes the design, development, and manufacturing of radio frequency and electro-optical/infrared countermeasure systems.” The company primarily serves the U.S. Department of Defense.
The campus will be 390,000 square feet and is estimated to cost around $150 million. The Austin Facility will focus on autonomy, cyber, sensor development and electronic warfare, and leading-edge manufacturing according to BAE Systems. Completion of the campus is expected in 2022.
